In July 2018, Portugal was considered by WHO as "an exemplary country in the prevention, detection, treatment and care of HIV patients", having reached the country, practically all the objectives established by the United Nations program on HIV / AIDS - UNAIDS, known as 90/90/90.

Much of this exemplary path is due to Odette Ferreira (1925-2018), to whom we wish to pay homage with this exhibition.

Professor Odette Ferreira, as she was affectionately treated by all those who knew her, was also a very special person, who distinguished for her courage, tenacity, persistence, sense of mission and dedication to the public cause.

As a pharmacist, she always fought for the valorization of the profession. She faced all the challenges that life imposed on her, with the same bold and determined attitude. Built a future for Pharmacy in Portugal!

She fought for access to the pharmaceutical profession as a woman and professional. Built a pioneering path in the emancipation of the Portuguese woman!

She acted against the stagnation of the Pharmacy teaching, for the modernization, dynamization and development of scientific research in Portugal, which culminated in the discovery of the HIV-AIDS virus type 2. Built a future for science in Portugal!

She battled against a conservative, closed society where taboo subjects were not debated; combated fear, ignorance and prejudice, in the ever-renewed attempt to save human lives! Built a more fair and solidary society!

In the unconditional defense of the excluded and marginalized by society and her relentless battle for human dignity, demonstrates that life example of Professor Odette Ferreira, far outweighs her remarkable achievements.

Far beyond science, in building futures!
